Research

Data Research

During this project, data will be a
big part in creating the outcomes.
The data will be to apply research
to our chosen concept, and also to
create a infographic that represents
this data visually. For example, as
my theme for this project is colour,
data that i could research would be
the percentage of the most popular
favourite colour. During my journey
and taking images, i will be
looking at the most popular usage
of colours in graphic design.

Diagrammatic’s

Diagrams is a way of visualising descriptions of something, for example, there can be a diagrammatic pointing out and briefly describing the parts of a poster of an infographic. Mind maps are
one form of a diagram which we use to generate ideas around a theme or concept. A diagram can
be used to describe that parts of an object or help generate ideas around one thing.
An example of a mind map i have done for this project, is to look at different ideas of concepts and
themes that i can use for the photography and the project. After creating this mind map and doing
idea generation, i chose colour as my final theme.

The infographic is one of the outcomes during this project.
The infographic will be showing the data that i have collected for this theme and represented visualising using icons and
graphics.
For my chosen theme, which is colour, i will be using the
data collected and also facts that have been researched. I
would have also taken a survey to find out some extra facts
and data about colour and its popularity. This data will then
be represented in an infographic, which will be a quick and
easy way of viewers to read the information. To create tjis infographic i will need to consider the typography and colour
to improve the visuals.

Duane Michael’s is a photographer who
mainly portrays some story and a narrative
throughout here images. These are some of
the examples of her work, she also uses text
in some of her work to add to the narrative.
I chose Duane Michael’s as her main style is
narrative, story telling. For this project, the
photography that we take has to tell a story
through the images. Typography is also part
of portraying a deeper meaning through
the images. For the image I will be taking, I
will also need to be thinking about applying
type onto the images. Duane used her own
handwriting, which could be a possibility for
my images.

As my theme is colour, the theme would need to be obvious.
Therefore, I agreed on the selective colour technique. Where the
significant colours of the image are enhanced and brought out
of the black and white. Micheal Hill has good examples of this
technique. The black and white contrasted against the colour
makes the image stand out, as well as the texture of the
materials is more defined.

Photographic Styling

Another technique that I was interested in was, movement. The
use of slow shutter speed, light painting and blurring images. The
example above is an example slow shutter speed that tracks the
lights of traffic. This would be an interesting technique to
experiment with.
Another way slow shutter speed can be used is whilst people
are moving, it creates a blue. For this however the theme or
concept would of been movement. This gives a ghostly effect
and gives the opportunity to focus on one main subject, with the
rest blur.
